Sunday in the Park with George

Neal Street Productions co-produced the transfer of this fresh and inventive, multi-award winning production of Sondheim's musical from the Menier Chocolate Factory to the Wyndham's Theatre in 2006. A transfer to Broadway’s Studio 54 followed using state-of-the-art live projection to bring Seurat's artwork to life, the production unanimously thrilled critics and audiences alike, with both Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell winning Olivier Awards for their performances in the lead roles.

Sunday in the Park with George is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It was inspired by the French pointillist painter Georges Seurat's painting 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'. The plot revolves around George, a fictionalised version of Seurat, who immerses himself deeply in painting his masterpiece, and his great-grandson (also named George), a conflicted and cynical contemporary artist.
